Our own minds, our thoughts, can raise us to the highest levels of creativity and deep thinking or cut us down to the lowest depths of depression or anxiety.
Left unguarded, our mind will take us to all sorts of weird and wonderful places. Some of these places can be quite dark. Anxiety is the result of a human mind out of control or losing it's grip on reality. Anxiety is worrying about imaginary future events. It is our imagination worrying about the future which, of course, hasn't happened and over which we have no control. Anxiety is an imagination veering towards unlikely and unhappy situations and upsetting scenarios. Once anxiety takes hold or becomes a habit, it is difficult to settle and bring under control. It can be done.
The trick is to not leave the mind unguarded. Creativity and focussed intent are the enemy of anxiety. When we are armed with a plan and an intention for what we will do and where we will be going, there is little room for anxiety or catastrophising to get a look in. Don't waste your amazing human imagination on out of control, anxiety ridden thoughts that will bring you down and probably will never happen. The 'monkey mind' can be tamed and reframed and refocussed.
